Klaviyo's "Good Health" Bar and Gmail's Enforcement Line Are Two Different Numbers: Brands Keep Reading Them as One

Checking account health on a laptop. Klaviyo's score and Gmail's assessment are calculated from different data.

Your Klaviyo deliverability score and Gmail's spam-rate enforcement line are two separate measurements. Klaviyo's score reflects how your account performs against Klaviyo's own benchmarks for bounces, complaints and unsubscribes. Gmail judges your domain on its own data, with a spam rate it wants under 0.10% and an enforcement line at 0.30%. A green "Good" in Klaviyo doesn't tell you where Gmail stands.

Key takeaways

  • Klaviyo's deliverability score is Klaviyo's view, built from metrics on its platform and designed partly to protect its shared sending infrastructure.

  • Gmail doesn't look at your Klaviyo deliverability score. It uses its own complaint, authentication and engagement data.

  • You can look healthy in Klaviyo while sitting near, or past, Gmail's line.

  • Klaviyo can restrict sending on accounts with poor health on its own scale. That's a separate risk from Gmail rejecting mail.

  • Google Postmaster Tools is where you see Gmail's view.

You open Klaviyo, see a green "Good" next to your account health and assume all's well. Then results keep sliding and more emails seem to vanish. Plenty of brands treat their Klaviyo deliverability score as proof Gmail is happy with them. They're two different measurements, and mixing them up costs real revenue.

What Klaviyo's deliverability score measures

Klaviyo rates your sending against its own benchmarks, including bounce rate, spam complaint rate and unsubscribe rate. Those feed the score and labels you see in Klaviyo's deliverability reporting.

The benchmarks exist partly to protect Klaviyo's shared infrastructure. If too many accounts send mail that bounces or draws complaints, it hurts the reputation of the shared pools every Klaviyo brand relies on. So Klaviyo sets a fairly tight bar of its own.

It's Klaviyo's number. It shows how you're doing against Klaviyo's rules, not how Gmail, Yahoo or Outlook treat your email once it leaves Klaviyo.

What Gmail's threshold measures

Gmail runs a separate system. Since 2024, its bulk sender rules have required proper authentication and a spam complaint rate kept low. Google asks senders to stay under 0.10% and treats 0.30% as the point where enforcement starts.

Gmail never checks your Klaviyo deliverability score before deciding what to do with your email. It evaluates your domain directly, using complaints from Gmail users, authentication results and engagement patterns among its own users. Different data, different rules, different purposes.

Why brands read them as one

Both numbers use similar words: health, reputation, deliverability. Both show up when performance drops. So a healthy Klaviyo score feels like confirmation that Gmail sees the same thing.

It isn't. Complaints are a good example. Klaviyo only sees the complaints that mailbox providers report back to it, and Gmail doesn't generally share individual spam reports with senders. Gmail's figure in Postmaster Tools is user-reported spam divided by mail delivered to Gmail inboxes, so it can sit well above what Klaviyo shows if Gmail users are the ones complaining. A brand can show a reasonable Klaviyo deliverability score while its Gmail-specific spam rate creeps toward the line.

Open rate, click rate and placed orders from a Klaviyo send. Klaviyo's score watches bounces and complaints; Gmail watches your domain directly.

What happens when Klaviyo's own threshold is crossed

Klaviyo's account health system runs independently of Gmail. If your bounce, complaint or unsubscribe rates climb far enough on Klaviyo's scale, Klaviyo can review the account and limit sending until things improve. That's what people mean when they search for "Klaviyo disabled due to poor deliverability score".

It's a different consequence from Gmail filtering or rejecting your mail, and the two often get confused. Both are real risks. Passing one doesn't mean you've passed the other.

How to check where you stand with Gmail

Your Klaviyo deliverability score won't give you the Gmail view, so look here as well:

  • Google Postmaster Tools. The only place to see your domain's spam rate and compliance status from Gmail's side.

  • Authentication, regularly. SPF, DKIM and DMARC need to stay correct on your real sending domain, not just pass once at setup.

  • Clicks by provider. Falling clicks among Gmail recipients can show a placement problem before complaint numbers move.

  • Don't wait for a red label in Klaviyo. By the time Klaviyo flags a problem, Gmail may have been treating you differently for weeks.

Where MailMend fits

Reading both numbers correctly tells you whether your mail is being accepted. Once Gmail accepts it, it still decides between Primary and Promotions. MailMend works on that step. It's built for Klaviyo and designed to improve how often your campaigns and flows land in Primary, with nothing to change in your copy or your list. Measure it in a native Klaviyo A/B test, MailMend on versus off, on clicks and revenue. Book a demo; the free trial starts after your first A/B test.

Frequently asked questions

Is a "Good" Klaviyo deliverability score enough?

It means you're within Klaviyo's benchmarks. It doesn't tell you your Gmail spam rate or where your mail lands. Check Google Postmaster Tools as well.

Can Klaviyo disable my account for a poor deliverability score?

Klaviyo can review accounts and restrict sending when bounce, complaint or unsubscribe rates are too high on its scale. Fix list quality and complaint sources first.

What spam rate does Gmail want?

Below 0.10% in Postmaster Tools, and never 0.30% or higher.
